Classic 70s anamorphic lenses with unusual super powers. For starters they're really fast; they're the fastest anamorphic lenses available, providing extremely thin depth of field with the types of image 'break downs' we expect from vintage lenses shot wide open, but even more than others due to this really fast stop. Lenses from this era were intended to be shot one stop closed for the spherical taking lens and another for the anamorphic cylinders. Stopping these down 2 or more stops brings a lot more control to the image. The second super power is their incredible coverage — Nipponscopes cover full frame where they exhibit even thinner depth of field, image separation and explorable aberration. Built with Shiga front cylinders these special lenses share a lot with the same period's similarly constructed Todd AO and Cineovision anamorphic lenses, as they all utilize Japanese — or Nippon — Shiga anamorphic cylinders to accomplish their cinescope magic. Our set includes the rare 24 and 135, forming a large usable set of high character signature glass. In case its not clear, these lenses require a visionary and capable cinematographer to harness their strengths.
