RAW Take:
Neutral Natural

Not as cool as Zeiss, not as warm as Cooke. Nikon AI-S are nice and natural, like Lomos but full frame. In the 1970's and 80's Nikon AI and AI-S lenses were THE preferred glass of photojournalists and fine-art photographers alike, dominating the 35mm SLR market of that era. Their particular blend of technical excellence and soulful rendering separated Nikon primes from the competition then and provide a uniquely subtle and faithful option to cinematographers now. Nikon AI-S lenses are known for good contrast, neutral color, modest flare and gentle halation when shot wide open. We've got a big set with 12 focal lengtts from 15mm to 300mm. Our hi speed 200 was our first lens purchase; it still wows us every time it lands on a camera. The big 300 was and remains one of Nikon's most acclaimed technical accomplishments with unrivalled subject isolation. Its a banger.
